More Love, More Miracles
Recently, I have been listening to a new Japanese song called “kiseki,” a word you might found if you looked up an English-Japanese dictionary listed under the term “miracle.” But if you’re curious enough to look it up back in a Japanese-English dictionary, you will find 2 terms listed under it: one is of course “miracle”, and the other is “trail.” Though they are just simply a pair of homophones in the Japanese language, it did remind me of their connection: miracles are made up by however little bit of trails.
Many proverbs, home and abroad, have also pointed this out. Among domestic sayings, we have “A journey of a thousand miles starts with a step” from Lao Tzu, and “Without small steps, one can't cover a thousand-mile journey; without small flow, there can't be oceans nor seas. “ from XunZi. Among foreign ones, there are “many a little makes a mickle”, “Rome wasn’t built in a day” only to name a few. Don’t all those described in these proverbs count as “miracles”? Literally, those little bits of trails are in the form of steps and flows. But can I put them in this way: all those trails are some portions of expression of love?
The meaning of love itself is complicated, but of all variations of definitions, words like “faith”, “intense feeling” are inevitable. Taking the saying from XunZi as an example, many will recall that this segment was from Advocating Study, in which the author emphasized on convictions, on convictions that one shall never lose the faith in studying even if the progress was little. Shouldn’t we count this as an expression of love, for can such a firm belief towards study be held by someone who doesn’t even love study a little?
Examples of love acting as faith are many in reality. Football fans may not forget that in a recent decisive match between Turkey and Czech in Group A of Euro 2008, Turkey turned the table against Czech with both disadvantages in scores and time, where they erased a 0-2 deficit in only 17 minutes’ time and finally won the match 3-2. After the remarkable comeback, Turkey coach insisted that he and his players “never gave up hope.” Hadn’t the Turkish loved the sports, treasured the chance of representing their country, could this happen?
Let us learn from all this examples, love everything that we’re doing. Only so can we hold our faith firm. Only so won’t we give up. Only so can all the miracles come true.
